How to Transfer WordPress From wordpress.com Site to Self Hosted Site Print

  • 21

If your website is currently hosted on WordPress.com and you’d like to move it to your own hosting account for more flexibility and control, you can do so by following the steps below.

Step 1: Set Up WordPress on Your Hosting Account

Before transferring any content, WordPress must already be running on your hosting account. You can install WordPress instantly using the Softaculous auto-installer inside your control panel. If you prefer a manual setup, you may also download WordPress directly and install it yourself.

Step 2: Download Your Website Content from WordPress.com

You will now need to get a copy of your existing site’s data.

Log in to your WordPress.com admin dashboard.
Navigate to Tools and select Export.
Proceed to download the export file to your computer. This file contains your posts, pages, media, and other site content.

Step 3: Upload the Content to Your New WordPress Installation

Once your new WordPress site is ready, you can import your data.

Access your new WordPress dashboard using:
http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin
(Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain.)

From the dashboard, open Tools > Import > WordPress.
Select the export file you previously downloaded.
Click Upload and Import to complete the process.

After the import finishes, reload your website to confirm that all your content has been transferred successfully.
