Website Builder offers limited undo functionality within the editor, but not all changes can be reversed automatically. Before attempting to undo changes, it helps to understand how saving works, since your edits are saved continuously as you work.
Undoing Text Edits
- While editing a text element, use the Undo and Redo buttons in the formatting toolbar.
- Keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z) also work for undoing and redoing changes.
- Important: Undo only works while your cursor remains inside the active text element. Clicking outside may make previous changes unrecoverable.
Undoing Layout Changes
There is no global “undo” for:
- Moving content elements
- Deleting content blocks
- Reordering sections
Deleted elements often cannot be restored and may need to be recreated manually.
Reverting a Theme Change
- If you recently changed your website theme, you may be able to switch back to a previous theme from the Themes section.
- Previously used themes usually appear under Recently Used.
- Note: Switching themes may require re-adjusting layout elements.
Undo After Publishing
- Publishing does not create restore points or backups.
- Undo actions only affect the editor version—not the live site.
- If you published unwanted changes:
- Reopen the editor
- Manually restore the previous content if possible
- Republish the corrected version
You can continue to edit your site safely before republishing updates. For context, see how publishing works.
Important Limitations
- There is no full version history or global undo tool.
- Deleted elements cannot always be recovered.
- Autosave may prevent reverting to much older versions.
- Publishing does not create automatic backups.
- For major structural changes, review edits carefully before publishing.
